The "Border-based Chart Builder" can even create interactive border strips, which when hovered show a small label with various details.

This way the border itself can be used in displaying various statistics or other details.

The border strips are not even, nor are they automatically generated, so to create a colored strip, data needs to be fed into the plugin.

Demos are included with the download package.
